This conference aims to create and disseminate knowledge and wisdoms to improve educational and human services for students with Asian backgrounds. I would like to invite specific research questions/findings, best practices, educational wisdoms, local realities, and statistics on the issues as follows.
I am excited to invite you to the 2010 California Conference on Education and Human Services: Empowerment and New Directions for Persons with Asian Backgrounds, to be held at California State University, LA on Sep 25, 2010.
The Asian population in California and in the nation has grown rapidly over the past 30 years. Between 2000 and 2005, the number of Asian Americans residing in California increased from 3.8 million to 4.7 million (UCLA Asian American Studies Center, 2007). In a recent year¡¯s census (2000), 12.3 percent of California¡¯s population identified as Asian while the Asian population represented 4.2 percent of the total population of the United States.
The growth of the Asian population particularly in schools has brought forth many research questions and issues regarding the establishment of practices and policies accommodating their unique needs and challenges.
This conference has been conceived by Korean American Professionals in Education and Human Services (KApEH) consisting of educators, researchers, and practitioners in the areas. The KApEH is interested in the preparation of future generations who will take prides in Asian cultural backgrounds and take leadership roles contributing to the mainstream society.
